From The Spoke’n Word September, 2006:

In Memoriam

Walt Nicholson

September 4, 1937 – August 6, 2006

The Big Wheels were saddened August 6th when Walt Nicholson was suddenly taken from us. Walt was doing the Chestnut Hill ride when he collapsed about one mile into the ride. All efforts to revive him proved futile. Walt meant so much to the club. His rides, his willingness to help, and his always making sure the last rider was accounted for will be deeply missed.

Tuesday, August 8th we did Walt’s last ride; a metric century (62 miles). In his Honor we will have “The Walt Nicholson Memorial Metric Century” each September, the first ride will be September 9th. Walt, may the wind be at your back and the roads down hill. We miss you! Bill Jerge
